A travelling day , it took me 12 hours from Penzance to Manchester !!! It was a weird day, I didn’t communicate with anyone for 12 hours , it was like a silent mobile retreat. So I had a lot of time to meditate , think , contemplate, read, write and plan.
It was a pleasant journey through the southern villages and towns. I made sure I had loads of water and porridge before I set off and a rice pudding in my bag .
I don’t get bored at all as I delved into my book about the Spanish Civil War and the consequential Spanish involvement with Hitler and Mussolini as Franco took hold of liberation in Spain. Heavy but well recommended ‘The seamstress’ by Maria Duehas, throughly researched and well written . I was able to appreciate the vast views from my window of fields, villages, urban architecture, wild flowers and the ever changing sky as I listened to my favourite music on my headphones ranging from REM to Sibelius .
It’s so interesting that most of my life I have always sought pleasure from outside , from other people , from parties, meeting up with others . I guess I have been very gregarious in the past . As I have obtained MND I have learnt to enjoy the simple things more , less gadgets , less distractions and to appreciate my own company and seeking pleasure from within instead of outside . So I have enjoyed doing the solitary tasks of painting , reading and visiting beautiful places in the countryside and appreciating art too .
This I guess is a good introduction for the awareness day we are planning . We still need to plan the day more specifically but we do have a definite date now Saturday 14th of September From 6 until 10pm
We are showing art, poetry, music and ultimately the film ‘ I am breathing ‘ about the thin line between life and death with a guy who as MND and the impact it has on his young family. So put it in your diaries and let me know if you need accommodation if you are travelling up here . The theme is to Appreciate your Day … So we offering an opportunity for you to get some pleasure from looking , hearing and reading. before we show the film.
